Overview
POTD Wallpaper ("the App") aggregates publicly available "Picture of the Day" images from third-party sources and lets you set them as your device wallpaper. The App does not require an account and does not collect personal information.
Data the App Does NOT Collect
- No personal information (name, email, phone number)
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, or files from your device
- No advertising identifiers
Data Collected Automatically
Crash Reports and Diagnostics
The App uses Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous crash reports and basic operational diagnostics (e.g., whether background tasks completed successfully). This data may include:
- Device model, OS version, and app version
- Stack traces and error logs at the time of a crash
- Background task status (success, failure, duration)
This data is used solely to diagnose bugs and ensure the App functions reliably. It does not contain personally identifiable information. You can learn more about Firebase's data practices at Firebase Privacy.
Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores image caches and your preferences (selected image sources, refresh interval, display settings) locally on your device. This data never leaves your device.
Third-Party Services
The App connects to the following services to fetch images:
- NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day (api.nasa.gov)
- NASA Image of the Day (nasa.gov)
- Bing Image of the Day (bing.com)
These services may log standard web request data (IP address, user agent) according to their own privacy policies.
The App also uses:
- Google ML Kit — On-device object detection for smart wallpaper cropping. All processing happens locally; no image data is sent to Google.
- Firebase Crashlytics and Analytics — Anonymous crash reporting and operational diagnostics as described above.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require any personal information to function.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this document.
